Livingston to Deadwood

The third leg of our journey!

We mapped it out and planned on a long day. Made sandwiches and brought snacks for our long drive. Set out about 9 am and the first half of the drive was pretty smooth. Then the wind started about the time we hit Wyoming. It was an uphill battle between the hills and the cross winds. White knuckle driving! Thought about stopping but kept on trucking. Then after more than 6 hours of driving an alarm started sounding and we both said “what is that?” Not exactly in those words😂.Joel pulled over and said it’s the tire sensor. We were getting a flat tire. We got out and sure enough the rear passenger tire was going flat. Joel figured out that the stem was leaking. So we got to change a trailer tire in 30 mile an hour winds on the side of the freeway in Wyoming. The silver lining – at least it was on the passenger side.

I couldn’t make this up in my wildest dreams! I wish I had a picture to share.

We finally made it to Deadwood. Had to back in to a very tight spot and Joel did a great job. The guy at check in was so nice! He came up and helped us get in safe and sound. We decided it was too late and we were too whipped to go into town so I poured some wine, Joel had a beer and we ate tv dinners we had in the freezer for moments like this lol😂.

As I sit here writing this we are under a winter storm advisory. It’s snowing and we have gale force winds. Last night we went to bed with the thermostat set at 70. Joel woke up about 3 and hit out of bed to check and see why it was so cold. Guess what! The furnace wasn’t working. Oh joy! I guess it’s number 3. They say bad things come in 3’s right. Well I hope this is it. Can’t say it’s been a wonderful stress free start to our Nomad Adventures. We’re going to figure it out and hope that it’s smoother going here soon.

Here are a few pictures. The first one is of Theo and Finn riding in the backseat, a few of our spot, and a few of our first visit to Historic Deadwood and Saloon Number 10.

    Kathy,

I hope that 3 is the lucky number and that all your “challenges” are over!! It’s great reading about all this and seeing the photos – and, it’s great that you call me regularly!! Love hearing about all this.

    Love,Marilyn
