We started off smooth but ended a little rough! Two surprises on this trip. One happened on the way and one we found when we got here. Plus this was our first back-in site. All of the other places we have stayed had pull through sites which are far easier. We did okay though lol. Joel got it backed in with my instructions on the first try and we still love each other. The Frey barely fit so we don’t even have room for Betty so she is in the parking lot down the way.

I haven’t talked much about what it is actually like to travel while pulling a 32 foot long trailer. You have to know your route and pick gas stations very carefully, which is something I never really thought about before our Nomad adventure started. We always fill up the truck before we hook up but when you are getting about 8 miles a gallon even a 44 gallon tank empties pretty quickly. So we usually start looking for a gas station when we have about 1/2 tank left. Joel has been doing all of the driving so far and I am the navigator and also the gas station scout. We have been to a few gas stations along the way that look okay but when we get a closer look we decide it just won’t work so we get back on the freeway and find the next one. “Easy off and Easy on” has been our motto. Now we need to add a word. Easy off, Easy Out, and East on…lol. Let me explain after I show you a picture.

That thing that you see on eat yellow block is called a stabilizer. When you get somewhere and set up you crank those down on all four corners to keep the trailer stabilized. As you can see now we only have 3. C’est La Vie as they say in France. It’s a small thing but a lesson learned. Avoid steep gas station driveways lol. When we were pulling out a very steep driveway we obviously hit the back on the trailer on the pavement. Could have been worse.. Should be easy for Joel to fix once we order a new one. Here is what we saw when we arrived at our campsite.

Ouch!

Another thing I haven’t talked a lot about it how you have to pack a trailer when you are full time RV’ing. You have limited space and have to take everything you need to live. Plus our two fur babies. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to try and figure out what to do because I’ve never had a trailer before. Got to say we have been super lucky in that we have’t missed much. Had to buy a garlic press because I forgot that but so far that’s it.

Well you also have to be strategic about packing what you do bring. There is a lot of bumping and shaking when you are moving on down the road. If things aren’t stored just right bad things happen. For example, we don’t have anymore glass wine glasses. I think we started with 6. Just too much shaking and they get hairline breaks that soon aren’t hairline anymore. We do have a couple of Yeti like wine cups that will be our standbys from now on. We have also been traveling with wine of course. I’ve been storing them over the couch where they can lay flat. No problem until we arrived in Texas to find a bottle had broken. I think it was the bump when we left that gas station! It was pretty much everywhere. No pictures to share because it was one of those moments where you are so caught up dealing with the issue its easy to forget capturing the moment. Reevaluating wine storage! Here are a couple of pictures of our storage techniques.

It’s been hot but fun here at Possum Kingdom Lake in North Texas and we leave Tuesday morning for a long drive to Calrsbad New Mexico. I am so excited to finally see New Mexico since I have never been there and have heard so many amazing things from so many people “especially Joel!”. Will we find our forever home there? Who knows so stay tuned. Here are a few pictures from our stay here so far.

Ah, the joys of traveling/living on the road!!! Too bad about the wine and wine glasses – a little harder to live without than a garlic press!!

Thanks for calling today. Enjoyed our chat about my future!

    Love,
