We’ve been here on Inks Lake for about a month. It has been a whirlwind to say the least which you will understand after you’ve read this blog post. We have a beautiful spot here on the lake. We are down on the end and we are usually the only ones down here during the week. The park fills up on the weekends with locals who come and enjoy the lake. We have been fishing but so far we’ve been skunked. LOL Joel snagged a turtle on the foot and we saw a snake. Walking in the mornings is pleasant. I go up on the bridge and do a few laps.

We moved in the 20th and were here for about a week when we got a call from Joel’s sister that his 93 year old dad had fallen again. He was in the ER and waiting for his 8th CAT scan. He has fallen that many times over the past year or more and managed to hit his head every time. He didn’t have a brain bleed so they sent him home. He asked to go to bed and take a nap when he got home which is very unlike him. We knew something wasn’t good when he slept pretty much all day. The next day wasn’t better so we decided to go to Oklahoma. The hosts here at Rockaway graciously offered to keep an eye on the trailer. These small RV parks are very safe so we weren’t worried about it. Got the trailer ready loaded up the cat and the dog and all their stuff and hit the road for the 6 hour drive to OKC. Left Friday the 25th and Joel’s dad passed on Sunday the 27th. We didn’t take a lot of pictures but here is one taken at the gravesite of Pat (Joel’s step-mom) and his two amazing sisters Faith and Hope.

Joel’s 2 wonderful sisters both offered to put us up with our fur babies. We stayed with Hope and the animals adjusted just fine. Finn had stayed there before but it was Theo’s first visit. He adapts surprisingly well to all the situations we’ve been in as long as we are there with him. The funeral was planned for Thursday the 31st. I needed to get back to Auston to fly out the 6th to Indiana to watch the boys while Brandon and Becca go to Kenya to do research for their jobs so the timeline would work…until it didn’t! I got a text Monday from Brandon asking if we could talk. I knew something was up. Turns out Chris Becca’s mom who was going to watch the boys from the 1st until the 6th had fallen and fractured her pelvis. Needless to say she was out of commission. They needed me on the 1st! Yikes, the timeline just got tight! Changed my flight to fly out Friday night arriving in Indianapolis at 11:30 and made an Uber reservation for 11:45. And Joel and I left right after his dad’s funeral. We hit the road about 12:30 rushing back to Hope’s house and loading up the animals etc. Fingers crossed for a smooth trouble free trip. Side note: for those of you who have been following our adventures know how fearful we were on that drive that something might go wrong.
We made it! The trailer was fine. Got home and unpacked the truck and repacked my bag for Indianapolis. Joel had to stay and hold down the fort. The Nomad life with animals can be complicated! Joel took me to the Austin airport late afternoon Friday to try and avoid the worst of rush hour traffic and I was off for 10 days with the boys and a couple with Brandon and Becca after they got home. We had our Thanksgiving on Tuesday before I came home of Wednesday November 13th. I was so busy that I didn’t take a lot of pictures but here are just a few.

Now I am back and recovered lol! Whew!!!! We have some fun things planned in our last few weeks here. Going to visit a couple we met in Colorado that live in Llano which is about 30 miles from us. Going to get together with a friend some of you may know Kristine Bono and meet her husband. We’re going to meet up in Fredericksburg and do some wine tasting together. We have a Friendsgiving planned here at the RV Park on Thanksgiving and we’re hoping to get together with a few of Joel’s relatives that live nearby. Going to try and see my buddy Erin’s daughter Carly who lives in Georgetown. And we need to make it down to Austin to be tourists and just check it out if we can squeeze that in. Then we leave here on December 5th and head down to Corpus Cristi where we will be spending the winter. I’ll post another blog when we move on down the road. Until then Happy Thanksgiving to all! Have a great day and know we will be missing you family and friends.
